Kinja'd!!!

I'll tell you about what I drove last weekend. It was this. A 2007 Lexus ES 350.

I'll be frank here- I hated it. It's a Camry and it shows in it's driving "characteristics" which is probably a generous way of putting it since it has no character in the first place.

I'll give it one thing- the interior is a nice place to sit. Leather seats are comfortable and the A/C works really well, and the wood trim looks quite nice. The radio is ok as well. There are some hard plastics, but they're in places where it's not a big deal since you never touch them, so who gives...

Anyway, here's the one flaw with the interior- and it's a bad place to screw up. The steering wheel isn't very good. It's a nice size, and it's only got a few buttons, so that's not bad, it's that they put wood on it. This is a problem (for me at least), because when you complete a turn and the steering wheel is sliding back through your hands so it's aiming straight again, that polished wood creates a lot of friction with your hand and it doesn't want to slide, making turning quite annoying (and sort of jerky since the wheel sticks to your hand). And that's a problem when, you know, you're driving.

Now to the actual driving part- it's not much better. In fact, it's worse. Way worse. This is the "Camry" part I mentioned above. The steering is so numb, you can't feel shit when you're trying to aim the car in a certain direction. But whatever, I guess I could get over that, given that it is a luxury car... But the brake pedal is the worst thing of all. It gives absolutely no feel, there's a sizable amount of play in the pedal, and then when you push enough for the brakes to start working, it's way too fucking much. It's basically impossible to modulate, and it's annoying as hell to deal with. The throttle is similar, but not quite as bad. It's okay at accelerating from 0-40 and 40-60, but if you're cruising on the highway and need a little juice to pass, it won't give it to you. I shit you not, I changed lanes to pass, pushed the pedal down a bit... and nothing... almost 2 seconds pass, and OH OK THERE IT IS ALL AT ONCE. That pissed me off too.

I knew this thing wasn't a drivers car but goddamn, I had no idea it would be that bad. Just from that experience alone, I might never buy a Lexus just because I was that unimpressed with it. It would take quite a bit of convincing at this point to tell me that Lexus is worth the money, when I could go spend it on something that's not as bad, like an Audi or BMW.

I like them too, if I'm just sitting in the seats with the A/C blowing cold on my face as I listen to good music on the OK stereo. It's when the wheels are turning I'm not so fond of it, lol :P

I should've said above that the only Lexus I'm still willing to own is an LFA. I imagine that's probably pretty damn good, haha

If you listen to driving instructors they tell you not to let the wheel slide in your hands anyway. :P Not that I don't do it too....

Lol, yeah it's probably a little bit of a bad habit that I do when I'm just around town driving, I should probably not do it...
